Notary Signature Certifications

Before sending an official record out of state or overseas, the notary’s signature may need certification.

How can I get a notary’s signature certified?

The County Clerk may apply a certification to a notarized document stating the notary’s signature is known to them and that the bond is in effect.  Typically, this certification is required before a document can be presented to the KY Secretary of State’s office for an ‘apostille’ certification which is generally required in advance of sending certain documents out of state or overseas.  To learn more about the apostille process, please visit the KY Secretary of State’s website at sos.ky.gov.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • The notary must be commissioned in Scott County.
  • The signature of the notary on the document must exactly match the signature on their notary bond.  No variations will be accepted.
  • The notary must include an acknowledgement statement identifying the signatory and the date of the document.  This statement must be written in English.  The body of the document can be in another language.

Fees:

  • $5 for each certification
  • Acceptable forms of payment include: cash, personal check, cashier’s check, money order, credit/debit card (card transactions incur a 2.75% vendor processing fee)

You may visit Deed Room #112 (first floor) in-person during our regular office hours to obtain a notary certification.
