Documents Required:
- Original out-of-state title
- Proof of Kentucky insurance
- Kentucky Application for Certificate of Title/VTR (TC96-182)
- Sheriff’s VIN inspection
- Photo ID & Social Security number
- Proof of prior state sales tax paid (if applicable)
Important Notes:
- Must title and register within 15 days of moving into Kentucky.
- Kentucky allows credit for usage tax paid to another state up to 6%.
Fees:
- $9 title fee
- 6% road usage tax (credit given for prior state tax if applicable)
- $21 registration/plate fee (base amount; fees may vary for specialized plates and vehicles over 10,000 lbs)
- $22 lien filing fee, if applicable
- $15 Sheriff inspection fee
