Titles for All-Terrain, Historic and Foreign Vehicles

Other Vehicle Types

Historic Vehicles

Vehicles 25+ years old primarily used for exhibition

Location:

  • Visit us at our Main Office or Branch Office

Documents Required:

  • Original title
  • Application for Kentucky Certificate of Title/VTR for out of state titles (TC96-182)
  • Proof of ownership/bill of sale
  • Sheriff’s inspection (VIN verification)
  • Commonwealth of Kentucky insurance policy including the following:
      • Name of the insured
      • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
      • Effective Date (current)
        • a current effective date if coverage already exists, or
        • a policy period that includes today’s date
      • NAIC code
        • The insurer’s NAIC (National Association of Insurance Commissioners) company code — a 5-digit number identifying the insurance company.
  • Valid Kentucky ID or Social Security Number for all new owners

Important Notes:

  • Historic vehicles: Must be 25+ years old and primarily used for exhibition in shows, parades, tours and other special uses but not for general transportation.

Fees:

  • $9.00 title fee
  • One time registration fee of $59.00 for Historic Vehicle Plate
  • $6.00 usage tax fee

All-Terrain Vehicles- Off Road

Dirt bikes, ATVs, four-wheelers used for off-road purposes

Location:

  • Visit us at our Main Office or Branch Office

Documents Required:

  • Original title or Certificate of Origin from dealership
  • Application for Kentucky Certificate of Title/VTR for out of state titles (TC96-182)
  • Proof of ownership/bill of sale
  • Valid Kentucky ID or Social Security Number for all new owners

Important Notes:

  • Off-road vehicles will have the designation “not for highway use” on the title

Fees:

  • $15.00 title fee
  • 6% sales tax fee on the sale price for off road vehicles purchased from a dealer
  • There is not a sales tax on the transfer of ATVs from individuals

Street Legal Special Purpose Vehicles- SLSPV

Special purpose vehicles titled and registered for street use

Location:

  • Visit us at our Main Office or Branch Office

Documents Required:

  • Original title or Certificate of Origin from dealership
  • Sheriff Inspection
  • Street-Legal Special Purpose Vehicle Inspection form (TC96-365)
  • Proof of ownership/bill of sale
  • Valid Kentucky ID or Social Security Number for all new owners
  • Commonwealth of Kentucky insurance policy including the following:
      • Name of the insured
      • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
      • Effective Date (current)
        • a current effective date if coverage already exists, or
        • a policy period that includes today’s date
      • NAIC code
        • The insurer’s NAIC (National Association of Insurance Commissioners) company code — a 5-digit number identifying the insurance company.
  • Title lien statement, if applicable

Important Notes:

  • SLSPVs must meet the requirements set forth in KRS 186.077
  • Scott County and the cities of Georgetown and Sadieville do not currently have an ordinance permitting SLSPVs on county or city roads
  • The City of Stamping Ground permits properly registered SLSPVs to operate on Stamping Ground city roads

Fees:

  • $9 title fee
  • $19.50 registration fee
  • 6% usage tax fee, waived if original bill of sale showing usage tax paid is provided
  • $22 lien filing fee, if applicable

 

Foreign Title Vehicles

Vehicles purchased from another country

Location:

  • Visit us at our Main Office or Branch Office

Documents Required:

  • Original title or other country registration
  • Sheriff inspection
  • Customs paperwork
  • Kentucky Application for Certificate of Title/VTR (TC96-182)
  • Commonwealth of Kentucky insurance policy including the following:
      • Name of the insured
      • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
      • Effective Date (current)
        • a current effective date if coverage already exists, or
        • a policy period that includes today’s date
      • NAIC code
        • The insurer’s NAIC (National Association of Insurance Commissioners) company code — a 5-digit number identifying the insurance company.
  • Valid Kentucky ID or Social Security Number for all new owners

Fees:

  • $9.00 title fee
  • $21 renewal fee (base amount; fees may vary for specialized plates and vehicles over 10,000 lbs)
  • 6% road usage tax
  • $22 lien filing fee, if applicable
