Becoming a Notary

Have you applied and received approval to become a notary with the KY Secretary of State? If so, then you are ready to make an appointment with our office to show proof of surety bond and take your oath!

First-Time Applicants & Commission Renewals

Please read carefully! In order to become a Notary Public in the state of Kentucky, you must first apply with the Secretary of State. You can access the Notary Portal through their website at sos.ky.gov.  As of January 1, 2020, it is now required of a notary applicant to obtain a surety bond. This process will be further explained on the Secretary of State’s website.

AFTER you have completed the application process with the Secretary of State: a postcard or email will be sent instructing you to contact the County Clerk’s office to be sworn in.

Only then should you request an appointment to finalize the process.

On the day of your appointment, you will need to bring:

  • a valid driver’s license
  • your original completed surety bond

Fees:

  • $19
  • Acceptable forms of payment include: cash, personal check, cashier’s check, money order, credit/debit card (card transactions incur a 2.75% vendor processing fee)
